Buy an E-Book? Would you buy bits and bytes to read on your computer?

Robert P. Fitton

Buy an e-book? My father had a succinct answer to many questions. He would smile, raise his brow and say: " Because I said so." Getting a reader to purchase bits and bytes of data over hundreds and maybe thousands of miles of wire or fiber optics through cyber space requires a better explanation. Welcome to the new world of cyber literature. With frequent Internet usage barely a decade old, all of us (myself included a few years ago at my typewriter) have stepped through a door into an unfamiliar universe. I am comfortable holding a book in my hands, balancing it in my lap, and smelling the fresh ink as I turn the crisp, new pages. That sounds enticing, but don't bolt the site just yet.
When TV was in its Golden Age viewers had three networks, a public station maybe, and programs were viewed in black and white with a little gray for the mix.

If you showed up on the doorstep of one of those people watching Ed Sullivan or The Honeymooners in the 1950's and tried to sell them 300 cable channels, or umpteen hundred satellite links, all in color, they would boot you out of the house! My books are read on your personal computer, Palm Pilot, Rocket e-Book, or a Microsoft Reader. I like shopping and browsing in a conventional bookstore and always will no matter what happens here on the net. My site is similar; only I don't stand at the door handing out free cappuccino, or wine and cheese, but I do give you hefty sample chapters. (don't go to your local bookstore and start ripping out the first forty pages of their books) My novels have book jackets, written for perspective, and some have audio clips. With a credit card you buy my books on a secure terminal and get a receipt to your e-mail. Oh, yes, you own the book instantly and you place it anywhere on your hard drive or read it on your palm pilot. Should you desire another format just e-mail me and off go the bits and bytes to your cyber address. That's what I offer as you're shopping from your favorite easy chair. Take a gander around the site. And Just remember:
It's in COLOR.
