Aliens: True or False
Are There Aliens in Them Thar Hills?

Rosewll Alien
A Roswell alien depiction

I 'm a science fiction writer and I have the gall to ask whether aliens exist or have existed among us? Let's hear both sides and then you decide.
This question is examined by extremists on both ends of the believing scale. Some people say extraterrestrial life is here now. You can't see the visitors or maybe they look just like humans. They've been here over the centuries and are responsible for many great human achievements. The photographs abound; ancient astronauts, the pyramids, Stonehenge, and tracings on the ground.
Then we have the rational, analytical gurus who quote us statistics, evolutionary scales, and light year star charts. Sciobabble can lead to a cynicism that overshadows genuine wonder.
Where did all this alternative life form speculation begin? Not with TV or B movies. Can you classify ancient gods as possible aliens? ( many books and TV episodes amplify this concept.) I like to start with the Odyssey, the true epic with very unusual thoughts.

There are many accounts and theories about visits.

UFO's in Earth's History

Many Possibilities, but a whole lot of Probabilities ...

Look at all the stars in this portion of the sky. With the naked eye we see billions of suns, thousands with great potential for life. Even the cynics tell us the odds favor life just by the sheer number of stars and planets.

Aquila to Sagittarius
Aquila to Sagittarius

I say the universe (as well as other universes and dimensions) is stuffed with life forms. Why do I say this? Look at the number of stars in just in the Aquila to Sagittarius photo. The number of stars in the universe is seemingly unfathomable to my limited human brain and the number of stars like our sun, supporting hospitable conditions for life to arise, is astoundingly staggering.

On a trip through New Hampshire Betty and Barney Hill mysteriously lose six hours of their lives.

Two accounts

Betty and Barney Hill eBook There was a radar blip at Pease AFB on the same date of the Hill's abduction in 1961.
Report No. 100-1-61:
... a strange incident occurred at 0214 local on 20 Sept.
Barney and Betty Hill Major Kehoe

Betty Hill made a B-line to the local library to study UFO sightings; specifically, Major Donald Kehoe's: The Flying Saucer Conspiracy. She began having nightmares where she and were husband were pulled over at a road block and alien beings summarily marched them into a prodigious alien ship.
She wrote a letter to Kehoe and then the UFO people get involved. They had questions about six lost hours on the Hills journey home. I don't know why it took the Hills six hours to return home to Portsmouth, NH when it should have taken two hours to drive from Colebrook, NH. Major James MacDonald, once a USAF Intelligence officer and now a Hill friend suggests hypnosis.
Dr. Benjamin Simon was a Boston psychiatrist and neurologist. He put them under for six sessions and details of the missing six hours emerge.

Betty Hill's Zeta sketch

Betty Hill sketched this map in 1962. After an exhaustive celestial search the formation is said to have matched exactly the Zeta Reticuli system. The analytical, cynical crew would question the number of geometrical star combinations.

Let's take a trip to Roswell, New Mexico
USAF PROJECT BLUE

Major Marcel
Major Marcel examines The Roswell debris

"I lit the cigarette lighter to some of this stuff and it didn't burn"

Dateline: July 3, 1947.W.W. "Mac" Brazel, a New Mexican rancher finds a craft wreckage up on the north forty. The debris looks weird and he blabs to his neighbors and the Roswell sheriff jumps into the fray. In comes the U.S. Army Air Force and they remove away the mess like a bowling alley sweeper getting rid of the pins.
On July 8, 1947 somebody in the USAF writes press release and says the debris was a crashed flying saucer.(whoops) They change their tune on July 9th.

Brig. General Roger Ramey's office at Forth Worth, Texas said: This (clear throat) was actually ... a crashed. ah ... weather balloon.

On Tuesday July 8, 1947, the Roswell Army Air Field base commander Col. William Blanchard, announced the recovery of a flying disk. Everything is then promptly shipped out to Hangar 18 at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio.

Doubting Carls ...

The skeptical approach

According to Einstein's special theory of relativity you can't go faster than the speed of light. ( unless you read one of my books) However, we all dream and hope faster than light speed or dimensional leaping is possible.

The Cosmic Speed Limit

Take a look at the light year distances of the stars. Space is an incredibly vast place. It just isn't that easy getting to other star systems at sub-light speeds.

NEARBY STAR CHARTS

If you're on a course to planet earth you'd better have one fast ship and you'd better be able to to supersede the laws of physics to get here.
The light years of a little more distant stars ...
These stars haven't even begun to reach into the universe.

Light year distances of some familiar stars:
Rigel (Orion) 797
Betelgeuse (Orion) 496
Deneb (Cygnus) 1397
Mimosa (Crux) 489
489 Acrux (Crux) 390
Antares (Scorpius) 396

Galaxy M42 eBook Stars and more stars

I believe there are thousands of advanced extraterrestrial life civilizations out there, markedly different in appearance and customs than us earthlings, but all sharing a common thread of matter rising from the depths to perceive with intelligence. We are a remote corner of the black vacuum of space. Even advanced alien expeditions would have to go through exploring billions of stars before getting to us. Let's hope they have circumvented our current understanding of physics . We have scanned the universe for decades with our radio telescopes, itching to find electromagnetic signals traveling at the speed of light from another civilization. I think we will soon find multiple extraterrestrial signals and stunned, we'll realize really are not alone.
